Merging a friend with an existing player when emails clash

You typed somebody in by hand, and now you know their email address. Putting it on their record links the two, so the row becomes their real Scoryboard account.

You typed somebody into your friends list months ago. Now you know their email address, and it turns out they are already on Scoryboard. Putting the address on their record merges the two: the row stops being a name you typed and becomes their account.

Before you start

This only works on a friend you typed in yourself. If the row already shows a small blue person beside the name, it is a real account and Edit is greyed out - there is nothing to merge.

Merge the two

  1. Select Friends in the sidebar, then the three dots on that person's row, then Edit.

  3. Scoryboard tells you the address is taken and asks what to do.

  4. Select Yes to merge, or No to leave the record alone.

  5. The row is now that person's account. It carries their own name, a small blue person beside it, and a working Chat button.

What you will see

The name you typed is replaced. The row takes the name on their Scoryboard account. If you had them down as "Big Ade" and their account says "Ade Nwosu", the row now reads Ade Nwosu.

Anything they are already part of stays as it is. Teams you put that person in keep them.

You cannot undo this. Once the row is an account, Edit is greyed out, so there is no way to put the typed name back. If you merged the wrong two people, remove the row and add the person again - and remember that removing a friend also takes them out of your teams.

If it does not work

  • You are not asked anything and the row just changes. That happens when you use Add Friend rather than Edit. Adding a new friend with an address that already belongs to somebody links the two straight away, with no question.

  • Edit is greyed out. The row is already a real account.

  • The name is wrong after merging. It is their account name, and only they can change it.

  • Nothing happens when you select Update Friend. Check the address. A malformed one stops the form without showing a message.

  • You picked the wrong person. There is no undo. Remove the row and start again.
