You do not have permission to do that

The four ways Scoryboard tells you a screen or a button is not yours - Access Denied, DUMMY TEAM, a greyed-out button and Match Preview - and who to ask.

Scoryboard decides what you can do by your role on each team, leaderboard and match. Only the Owner and an Administrator can change a team or run its matches. Everybody else can look.

Four screens tell you that you are looking, not running. Find yours below.

Before you start

A refusal that offers a FREE Upgrade (Beta) button is not about your role. It is a Free-plan limit. See Every Free-plan limit, and the messages you will see.

Which screen are you on?

  1. Access Denied. You opened the settings of a team you do not run. Only the team's Owner and its Administrators can open Edit Team. Nothing you did was saved, and nothing was changed.

  2. DUMMY TEAM. Somebody created this team as a practice opponent, and only they can open it. There is nothing to see and nobody to join. Select Back to Teams. See Dummy teams and unowned teams.

  3. A greyed-out button on Edit Team. You are an Administrator, and the button is the Owner's. Delete Team is the one: an Administrator sees the section and cannot use it. Everything else on the page is yours to change.

  4. Match Preview (View Only). You opened a match and you are not on the staff of either team. You can read the details, the feed, the facts and the line-ups. You cannot start the match, score it, add a note or request a payment.

What to do

Ask the team's Owner. They open Edit Team, find you under TEAM PLAYERS, and change your role to Administrator. You cannot give yourself a role, and an Owner cannot hand over ownership. See Team roles - Owner, Administrator and Player.

For a match, the Owner or an Administrator of either team can run it. Ask one of them, or ask them to name you as the match's referee.

If it does not work

  • The page says "This page couldn't load" instead. On a leaderboard's settings, that is a permission refusal wearing a different face. You are not the leaderboard's Owner or an Administrator. See Something went wrong, and Page not found.

  • You were made an Administrator and the button is still grey. Delete Team stays with the Owner, whatever your role. See Deleting a team.

  • You are on the team and still get Access Denied. A Player is on the team and cannot open its settings. Only Owner and Administrator can.

  • The match page has no controls but you run one of the teams. Check which team's page you came from. A match between two other teams is view only for you.
